Tom
Romberg is a fifth-generation Texan with deep roots in Austin. He
is a sixty-one year old grandson of a University of Texas physics
professor and volunteer grandmother (Austin Public Library, Parks
Department, and health care clinics). Mr. Romberg grew up in Austin
and Houston, returning to Austin to spend his high school years at
St. Stephen's School and summers on Lake Travis. He holds a BA degree
in mathematics with a minor in physics from the University of Texas
at Austin.
He is married
to Peggy Freeman Romberg, Executive Director of a non-profit organization.
they have three grown children. One daughter, a former litigation
attorney with the U.S. Justice Department, is a full time mother with
her husband, Russell Gravatt and their two year old daughter. A second
daughter is a registered nurse with Cardiovascular Associates and
mother of eight year old son and daughter twins. Their son, a former
teacher of Honors and Advanced Placement Chemistry is now a first
year resident in OB-gyn at Baylor Medical in Dallas. The Rombergs
met at UT, and have lived in Austin all their married lives (40 years).
Mr. Romberg
has been associated with the heating and air conditioning industry
all of his working life. He spent eight years in the supply and mechanical
sales representative side before entering the contracting side. He
is owner and operator of Action mechanical Services, Inc., a design,
installation, service and energy conservation services firm. He is
past president of the Austin chapter of the Air conditioning Contractors
of America, past president of the Texas Air Conditioning Contractors
Association, a former board member of the Resource Conservation Contractors
of America, a former senior arbiter and former board member for the
Austin Better Business Bureau, a former member of the American Society
of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air conditioning Engineers, and a member
of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society.
Mr. Romberg
was instrumental in founding the Austin Yacht Club and was its Commodore
in 1970 and 1971. He is a former Senior Judge for US SAILING, a Senior
Recognized Race Officer, a past National Chairman of the Junior Championships
Committee of US SAILING, and a past member of its board of directors,
representing a ten state area. He has been chairman of the Street
Advisory Commission of Westlake Hills, a member of the board of Wild
Basin, on the vestries of St. Michael's Church and All Saints Church,
Commodore of the Texas Yachting Association, President of the Area
F Council of US SAILING, and, with his wife, Co-President of the Eanes
PTA. Mr. Romberg was once a candidate for a seat on the Eanes ISD
school board. He has volunteered his time to teach Sunday school,
coach basketball, and teach SAILING. He has been active in Marriage
Encounter.
He labels
himself as a "gadgeteer" and is forever repairing mechanical
things, for a living as well as for his own time activities.
